Loose, saggy skin can not be treated with lipo, or even laser-lipo. It can only be removed surgically. There are several options available to treat this problem.

Always remember that safety is the first concern! If the only problem is sagging skin with some a bit of excess fat, the simplest procedure is a panniculectomy, which is the removal of the skin/fat apron.

A panniculectomy is a good procedure when the abdominal wall (muscles) are not stretched or weakened, or perhaps the patient is not in the best of health.

Panniculectomy is also preferred in cases where the patient may want to have more children, or in obese patients where the panniculus is an impediment to exercise and weight loss.

In general, the cosmetic result is not as great as an abdominoplasty, but it is a worthwhile procedure when indicated. Another option is the “mini-tummy tuck”, or “mini-abdominoplasty”

The name of this procedure is somewhat confusing as it bears no relationship to the length of the scar. Rather, it refers to the amount of word performed on the muscular strength layer beneath the skin and fat layers.

Specifically, after the loose and sagging skin & fat are removed, the weakened muscle layer is repaired only between the pubic bone and the umbilicus (navel). This procedure in my opinion, is ideal for only a limited number of patients-specifically those people with a “pooch” that is isolated to the lower abdomen below the navel.

I have been in private practice since 1993 and have performed a very large number of tummy tucks, but very few patients had abdominal wall weakness limited to the lower abdomen. Full tummy tuck. This tummy tuck is the mainstay of abdominal contouring. What differentiates this from the mini version is the degree of abdominal wall repair. With the full tummy tuck, the repair extends from the pubic bone to the breast bone. The skin incision may or may not be longer than the one seen in the mini tummy tuck.
