Over nearly three decades, Dr. Alter has performed over 10,000 genital surgeries and pioneered both male and female aesthetic genital procedures, as well as gender confirmation surgeries. He has invented many surgical techniques that have been adopted by other plastic surgeons in the field, including the Alter central wedge labiaplasty (aka the Alter “V” labiaplasty), which preserves the original labia edge and reduces postoperative pain.

Dr. Alter received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, where he also completed a surgical residency. He went on to complete a urology residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and a plastic surgery residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He was also selected as a fellow for the genitourinary reconstruction and plastic surgery program at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Demand for Dr. Alter’s expertise in genital anatomy and cosmetic procedures has led to frequent appearances and interviews with media outlets such as The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, “Botched,” “Strange Sex,” USA Today, Allure, Self, Glamour, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, “The Larry King Show,” and more. He was a featured plastic surgeon on the E! show “Dr. 90210” for five seasons.

It is difficult to determine your anatomy because of your photos. However, your photo reveals that either your upper labia or lower hood has thick tissue that looks like it can be removed if it bothers you physically or psychologically. I suggest you send more photos of your entire genital region with your labia open and closed for better evaluation.
