Answer Snippet
How is cartilage obtained from the ribs and ear during rhinoplasty?
Obtaining rib and ear graft materials
Apr 13, 2015
Cartilage is harvested from the concha or bowl of the external ear through a posterior incision. Rib cartilage is harvested through a small chest incision with care taken to not penetrate into the chest cavity. Rib cartilage harvesting site more painful than ear site post-op. If not using using you own cartilage, homograft irradiated cartilage is available and safe though less predictable in outcomes.
