Statement: Dr. Sergio Maggi, MD, FACS is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Austin, Texas. He specializes in a variety of cosmetic surgery procedures, ranging from rhinoplasty to breast enhancement surgery for both women and men. In fact, he’s often referred to as Austin’s “Breast Doctor.”

Dr. Maggi completed his undergrad at UCLA, then headed to medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He chose to do his surgical training at four different medical centers and universities, including a plastic surgery residency at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, then went on to complete his plastic surgery fellowship at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital (also in St. Louis).

His approach to cosmetic plastic surgery is to start small, for the sake of both safety and the most natural-looking results. “We can offer a spectrum very much tailored to what the patient is interested in receiving and keep it as minimal as possible,” he says. “Rather than throwing a lot at somebody, I prefer to start in small increments. I always prioritize safety and always maintain a natural look.”

It’s this philosophy that makes him one the best-known plastic surgeons in Austin, with a reputation for giving patients the results they envision for themselves. “The primary focus of our practice has always been on patient safety and obtaining predictable results,” he says. He focuses on patient satisfaction through delivering on the surgical experience and results they expect.

Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Maggi is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Silicone implants placed throgh the armpit incison
Sep 12, 2018
Hello,The  incisons commonly used for the placement of gel filled (silicone) implants is the infra-mammary fold or the nipple area.  The approach using the umbilicus or axilla is not typically possible with silicone implants. Thank you,

Implant shifts up to collar bone is not to be expected

Thank you for your question.  The lateral breast rippling noted in you photograph is not uncommon, particularily with larger implants and a thin build.  It may help to change to silicone filled implants, and or the use of a liner like material such as alloderm or stratis. I hope this helps.Regards,

Scars can thicken as they heal- this is called hypertrophic scars.
Jun 13, 2018
Thank you for your question, and images.  I am not sure how far out from surgery you are, however from your images your overall symmetry, and shape appears good.  What stands out is the thick scars, otherwise referred to as hypertrophic scars. At the very least, especially in the first few months, regular massage of all scars, and silicone sheeting will help.  Sometimes such scarring if resistant to this also require steroid injections, lasers, or surgical scar revision.  All these sub...
6 months post lift and augmentation... are my scars normal for this stage?
Early Scars require care for optimal healing
Jun 13, 2018
Hello,At six months your scars appear acceptable.  Proper healing can take 9 to 18 months.  Wound healing research has consistently shown us that regular scar massage, silicon sheeting, sun protection, a healthy lifestyle, and no smoking will deliver an optimal result.  What I left out is the individuals biology- some folks naturally make thick scars.  Before going to other modalities such as lasers, steroid injections, or even revisions of a scar I suggest the above.
