Answer Snippet
Can you advise on shapeless nose tip 11 months post rhinoplasty?
Give it time and talk to your surgeon
Jun 21, 2022
The final result of a rhinoplasty in men can take 12-18 months for all the edema and scar tissue to settle. There are also several things that can be done to help speed up this process and fine tune the results such as steroid injections, etc. It is difficult to diagnose a problem based on pictures and when you are in the healing phase. If your surgeon is a reputable rhinoplasty surgeon, I would definitely visit them and have them see what is going on. They are the only ones who have seen...
Am I a candidate for rhinoplasty?
Of Course!
Jun 20, 2022
It isn't uncommon for cartilage to continue to grow into your mid 20s and can account for some of the changes you have seen as you have gotten a little older. The tip of your nose is controlled by the cartilage underneath and you seem to have average thickness of skin. With the correct trimming and reshaping of the tip cartilage, dorsal reduction, bone narrowing, and nostril reduction, you could expect a great outcome in the hands of a surgeon who is very experienced with rhinoplasty. There...
Crooked, droopy & uneven - am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?
Great candidate
May 15, 2022
Thanks for reaching out. It is very common for people to notice changes in their nose and particularly with breathing even after the rest of the body has stopped growing. the cartilage portion of the nose can continue to grow after the bones have all stopped. This can result in s severely deviated septum which can crowd the nasal passageways and block breathing. Based on your photos only, it would seem that you would be an ideal candidate for both functional (septoplasty) and aesthetic...
I'm trying to understand why my injury never went back to normal size?
Not all injuries show up on x-rays
May 15, 2022
I'm very sorry you got hurt. The nose is made up of bone, cartilage, and different soft tissue layers. X-rays only show what is happening with the bony part of the nose. The cartilage of the nose can separate from the bony part or the cartilage can break and crack as well. This won't show up on x-ray. You can get soft tissue swelling/bruising that can thicken the soft tissue, cause excess bone to grow, or damage and warp cartilage. All of these won't show up on basic x-rays. Its difficult to...
Realistic expectations for Rhinoplasty - can this be done?
Yes!
May 15, 2022
Based on the pictures you provided, the result you are wanting is very achievable. More pictures from different angles and a physical exam are needed to determine all the characteristics of your nose that affect the outcome, but what you have posted is a very reasonable request. This would be considered a fairly straightforward rhinoplasty in the hands of an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon and should be able to be done in with a closed rhinoplasty. Hope this helps!
Swelling 1.5 years after rhinoplasty - Is it too late for steroid injections?
Not too late
May 15, 2022
The ideal time to use steroid concoctions is during the healing process. However, you can still get quite a bit of softening after the year mark as well. Go to a rhinoplasty specialist and they should be able to help you. It is usually a series of shots with about 6-8 weeks in between treatments. My patients get between 2-4 injections. Hope this helps.
It looks like my columella has been chopped off. Is this is a retracted columella? Is it an easy fix?
Yes
May 12, 2022
Without knowing exactly what was done during your rhinoplasty, it is difficult to tell you exactly why you have the columella shape that you do. The most common reason would be over resection of the anterior septum. However, there are other reasons (displaced strut grafts, instability at the junction with the nasal spine, septal necrosis, etc). This can generally be fixed with a closed technique and graft placement if it was an over resection. However, I would wait a full year before...
What rhinoplasty should I get?
Can you provide a picture?
May 12, 2022
Rhinoplasty is a term that pretty much means doing anything to the nose to change its shape. There are hundreds of techniques that can be employed during a rhinoplasty in order to get the desired shape and function. There are rhinoplasties that can take an hour (simple tip refinement and hump reduction) and can take as long as 4-5 hours for functional and aesthetic rhinoplasties involving grafts from either your rib or a cadaver. If you wanted to provide any pictures of your nose, we could...
Doctor says my nose skin is too thick. Should I get a second opinion?
Definitely get another opinion
May 12, 2022
Even patients with thick skin can have a very nice result from a rhinoplasty. There are many techniques in surgery and after surgery to help refine a tip even in the setting of thick skin. I always try and treat my patients with thick skin with a closed rhinoplasty which really helps reduce the overall swelling which can cause an excess in scar tissue. The tissues can be thinned during surgery as well. After surgery, several injections of a steroid combination can be given at different...
Which surgery should I do first: nose job or breast augmentation? And how long should I wait before th
Why not do both
May 12, 2022
If you are sure you are going to have both done, why not have them done at the same time and save yourself some downtime and recovery time. If done by the same surgeon, they will start with the augmentation/mastopexy and then the rhinoplasty. It is possible to have two surgeons working at the same time (my partner and I do this routinely) which saves you time on the operating room table, saves you some money, and speeds up your immediate recovery time. If you are certain you want to separate...
Is it possible to refine my tip and alar base without a “done” look?
Yes its possible.
Apr 22, 2022
Thanks for your question and detailed concerns. It is possible to reduce nostril size, and refine a tip without having an overly "done" appearance. In fact, it is more difficult to achieve that look in thick skinned patients in general. At least 25% of the rhinoplasty result is based on treatment after the surgery and requires taping and one or more injection of a steroid combination. I would highly recommend that you seek a "closed" rhinoplasty. It is difficult to give you specifics as your...
What type of procedure would you recommend for my nose?
Surgical vs Non-surgical rhinoplasty
Oct 25, 2021
Great question! Unfortunately its impossible to give one answer without more information, but lets talk possibilities. The longest lasting result would be a surgical rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is a catch-all term for an operation to change the shape of the nose but is composed of many different maneuvers (depending on the patient's needs) that are used to change projection of the nasal tip, straighten the nose, change the width, contour the bridge, refine the tip, and enhance the nostril shape...
Any recommendation for permanent vs absorbable sutures for rectus plication (I am an athlete)?
Absorbable sutures in a Tummy Tuck
Feb 21, 2021
This is a fantastic question and one my partner and I were discussing just the other day. The short answer is - we don't know. To my knowledge, there has not been a long-term outcome study done on the use of permanent vs absorbable sutures in a tummy tuck. You will just hear a lot of "in my experience" answers, so its good to get a lot of opinions. Having trained as a full general surgeon prior to my plastic surgery training, I find a strong correlation to abdominal hernia surgery and...
Will I be a good candidate for an alarplasty alone?
Alar base reduction affects on the nasal tip.
Feb 21, 2021
Thanks for your question. It is very common (and smart) to look for the least amount that can be done to have the desired outcome. The short answer to your question is no. Alar base reduction will not narrow the nasal tip. Those two parts of the nose are not connected and have to be operated on individually in order to change their shape. Alar base reduction alone can actually make the nasal tip appear more bulbous and broad as it decreases the base of the nasal triangle without narrowing...
Am I a candidate for a regular or reverse tummy tuck and breast lift?
I hope this helps!
Sep 21, 2020
Great question and it is evident you have done some homework. While it is impossible to make a formal recommendation without an in-person consultation, here are my thoughts based on the pictures you provided and your expressed desires: You do have a long torso and a relatively lower set belly button. The abdominoplasty incision is controlled by where your surgeon makes the incision. You could still have a very low and easy to conceal transverse incision. However, depending on the elasticity...
