How do you know when a silicone implant needs to be replaced?
Regular MRI Tests Detect Implant Issues
May 23, 2016
Thank
you for your question. It is an issue I discuss with all my patients who choose
silicone implants. The silicone gel implants we use today don’t actually leak.
By that, I mean the gel filling the implant remains in place even if the
external structure cracks or ruptures. Still, it is a legitimate concern to
wonder how you will know if the silicone shell fails. That is why it’s
important, especially after a number of years, to have regularly scheduled MRI
tests, which can determine if…
After 5 months are your breasts pretty much done dropping?
Expect Little Change
May 23, 2016
After 5
months, implants have usually settled into place. There is a chance they will
drop a bit more, but don’t expect a dramatic change in appearance. A bra or
something else you may wear might have a temporary effect on the position of
the implants, but they will naturally settle into the former position. If you
are unhappy with your breasts’ appearance, you should ask your plastic surgeon
about your options. It’s usually best to wait at least a year after breast
augmentation to undergo a…
How likely is it that I ruptured my implants from a fall when running?
Unlikely, But Schedule an Appointment
May 23, 2016
I’m so
sorry to hear about your accident. As others have said on this forum, it’s
unlikely that the fall ruptured your implants. But your first step should be to
schedule an appointment with your plastic surgeon. Textured implants are
designed to create a stable capsule that adheres to tissue so that they don’t
rotate. It’s possible your fall separated either one or both implants from that
attachment. It’s definitely worth getting it checked out if you are concerned.
Best wishes.
Is it normal for one implant to start descending before the other?
Implants Settling at Different Times Is Normal
May 23, 2016
What
you describe is expected and nothing to be concerned about. Breast implants
will typically sit rather high on the chest immediately after the procedure and
gradually settle during the next 6 months. Implants do descend at different
times for some patients, which can be a bit unnerving. Of course, if you’re concerned
and need reassurance, don’t hesitate to call your plastic surgeon. That’s what
she or he is there for.
Are my breasts tuberous?
Breasts Are Not Tuberous
May 23, 2016
Breast
asymmetry is much more common than many women believe. Yes, your breasts are
slightly different sizes, but based on the photos you’ve provided they do not
appear tuberous. I would consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon If
you’re concerned about the appearance of your breasts or the areolae and
nipples. The “ski slope” shape of your breasts is also normal, but
cosmetic breast surgery can correct the asymmetry and reduce the size of the
areolae, if that’s important to you. Thank…
What are the cosmetic differences in over the muscle vs under the muscle implants?
Under or Over: Which Is Best?
May 23, 2016
Submuscular
placement of breast implants is typically associated with more discomfort during
the recovery period than subglandular placement. That is one factor to
consider, but your body type, the amount of natural breast tissue you have, and
your skin’s thickness all need to be included in the decision-making process,
as well. An under-the-muscle placement is usually preferred for women with less
natural breast tissue because it typically results in more natural-looking
outcomes. Visible…
What’s the difference between Silicone and Saline implants? Which are better?
Instead, Ask Which Is Better for You
May 23, 2016
Choosing
breast implants is a highly personal decision that ultimately comes down to the
kind of results you want. Both saline and cohesive silicone gel implants offer
unique benefits, and it really isn’t accurate to call one type better than the
other. Based on the fact that about 80% of patients getting breast augmentation
today select silicone implants, it’s reasonable to believe that they look and
feel more like natural breast tissue than saline implants. But that doesn’t
mean they’re…
Cohesive Silicone implants vs Gummy bear implants?
The Difference Between ‘Cohesive’ & ‘Gummy Bear’
May 23, 2016
It’s wonderful that patients have so many choices of breast
implants these days, but it can be a bit confusing, too. Your question is a
good one. Cohesive, gummy bear, form stable, and highly cohesive are all terms
used to describe various breast implants filled with silicone gel. Gummy bear
implants are filled with highly cohesive
silicone gel and are anatomically shaped. They are a bit firmer than cohesive silicone gel implants, which
may be round or teardrop shaped. Fourth generation…
Teardrop vs round implants?
Combine Round Implants With Lift
May 23, 2016
The best advice about your specific procedure will come
from a board-certified plastic surgeon who has the opportunity to physically
examine you and listen to your cosmetic goals. Having said that, I agree with
the other surgeons who recommend getting a breast lift that provides more
support than what can be achieved with only a circumareolar lift. Round
implants will sit slightly higher than shaped implants, providing more upper
fullness while still looking natural. Best of luck.
Smooth round v Texture round?
Smooth Round Tend to Be More Natural
May 23, 2016
The good news is that both smooth and textured round breast
implants can provide excellent results. As you can see in some of the previous
answers, however, there is no firm consensus that textured or round implants
are associated with a lower risk of capsular contracture. Smooth implants do
offer, in general, results that look and feel more natural than textured round
implants. A textured implant surface is important for shaped implants because
it helps prevent the implants from rotating….
Why do I feel huge after my tummy tuck?
Post tummy tuck swelling and when to exercise
Feb 13, 2014
First of all it is important to remember that a tummy tuck is a big operation and your body (including your mind) will take some time to normalize. Swelling develops over the first several days, but takes up to 6 months to fully disappear. Sometimes fluid can develop that will add to the fullness from the swelling so you should probably give your surgeon a call to be evaluated for this. As for exercise, your body is not ready for this. If you give yourself this time to heal and hold off…
Help please with lower eyelid surgery~ not sure if I am experiencing something I should be worried
Bloodshot eyes after blepharoplasty
Jul 8, 2013
When considering your eye irritation, the first thing to be clear about is that if you have any change in vision, increase in redness/discharge, or pain in your eye you should see your surgeon or an ophthalmologist sooner than the 10 days. If it is simply bloodshot eyes, hopefully it will begin resolving soon. Everyone is different in the time it takes for that to fully disappear. It is possible that the drops you are using are irritating a bit, so you might try a different brand. Otherwise…
Fixing Under Eye Wrinkles with Blepharoplasty?
Do I need a lower lid blepharoplasty to improve my lower lid wrinkles?
Jul 8, 2013
At your age you still have good skin on your lower lids, but you have deep tear troughs. As has been mentioned before, adding some volume (with fillers or fat) to your the deep hollows under your eyes and possibly to your upper cheek or midface area will blend the transition for you and save you a much more invasive operation, at such a young age.
Can I Get Breast Implants WITHOUT Lift? (I’m a Natural D)
Can I get implants without a lift?
Jul 8, 2013
In your case, you can get implants without a lift. However, my concern for you is that you would likely feel fuller but possibly droopier. Your best, longest-lasting result would be to get a breast lift at the time of your implant placement and this can still have a reasonably natural appearance. You would have to be able to accept the scars, though. You have nice breast shape, so there is not a completely straightforward answer. I wish you luck as you make these tough decisions.
Best Type of Neck Lift for a Female in Mid 20s? Is It Too Young for a Neck Lift to Correct a Heredi
Neck lift in my 20s?
Jul 8, 2013
Thank you for the questions and photos. At your age and from what I can see in the photos, I would be very unlikely to recommend a true neck lift. Whether you would benefit more from liposuction or direct removal of fat through an incision under your chin is difficult to tell without an exam, but I feel that either of these would probably be better than a neck lift at your age. Correcting the chin projection with an implant would elongate the appearance of your jawline and therefore improve…
