What’s involved in a mommy makeover

A mommy makeover in Chicago is a term used to describe the surgical procedures many women undergo after they have completed having children.

The surgery usually involves a breast procedure, such as a breast augmentation with or without a lift, and a tummy tuck procedure, with or without liposuction.

Most women undergoing this type of surgery should have medical clearance by their primary care physician consisting of a physical exam, lab work and an EKG. The length of the surgery depends on each individual patient’s needs.

This can range from approximately 3 hrs to 5 hrs. If more time is needed, your surgeon needs to consider doing the procedures in separate stages to insure safety. In some cases, patients may need to stay overnight at an aftercare facility for observation.

The recovery typically requires at least one to two weeks off of work and no heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks.

You will also wear a surgical garment for about 4 weeks after surgery. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon prior to scheduling a mommy makeover procedure.

You are an ideal candidate for an extended tummy tuck. The incision is extended past the hips to help remove some of the stretch marks in the flank area.

A tummy tuck involves repair and tightening of the rectus muscles, removal of loose, excess skin, and some liposuction to improve body contours.

Recovery time could vary between patient to patient, however, it is crucial that you stay in the hunched position for 1 month to prevent any tension on the midsection of the incision line.

Usually, 2 weeks post-op patients feel a lot better but do not push yourself. This is a very invasive surgery and it requires you to heal. An abdominal binder is worn for 1 month to minimize swelling and provide support.

The term “mommy makeover” in Chicago is a very general term that refers to rejuvenation of a woman’s body after childbearing. it refers to the combination of lifting, reducing, or augmenting the breasts, in combination with an abdominoplasty or liposuction.

The operative time for a mommy makeover varies depending on what exactly is being done. usually the time is somewhere from 4 to 6 hrs. In my practice, i try to limit elective operative procedures to about 6 hrs. when i perform a full abdominoplasty, and breast augmentation with a lift, this takes me about 5 hrs. most of these procedures can be performed in a single stage. Mommy Makeover in 3 Separate Surgeries?

To accurately answer your question a plastic surgeon would need to examine you, go over your health history, and understand your goals. This would help assure what the safest options for you. As far as ‘ what is possible’ in general terms regarding this combination of procedures the range of options is to combine all three of the procedures, to do them all separately, etc.

I typically perform the breast lift (Mastopexy) either as a separate procedure (typically a 2 hour procedure), or combine it with a breast augmentation (augmentation Mastopexy)- with the clear understanding that the risk is increased, in certain cases, when these two particular procedures are combined.

As far as the performance of the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), it can be combined with either of the two procedures.

My patients often prefer to undergo the Mastopexy as the initial procedure. Allow time to heal (usually a few weeks), choose their implant size now that the breasts have been reshaped, and undergo the breast implant surgery combined with the tummy tuck (around 3 hours combined).
