Answer Snippet
I'm 65 with diabetes (controlled). Am I too old for mommy makeover?
Age is not everything
Aug 27, 2021
Age is not everything, and the answer to this question will be dependent on your overall health. Assuming diabetes is your only medical condition, you could proceed with surgery assuming it is well controlled. I generally require an A1c below 7 to proceed with any surgery, BMI less than 35, and for the overall health of my patients to be appropriate for surgery. Discuss your medical history thoroughly with your doctor and make sure you are seeing a board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck!
Chronic seroma 2 years after tummy tuck. What could this be?
See your surgeon
May 13, 2021
Hi, and sorry to hear you have been dealing with this chronic problem. It is possible for a seroma to become a long standing problem, as once it forms a smooth pocket it will not resolve with compression. It is possible for the area to bleed if the capsule around the seroma is torn, which may be what you just recently experienced. The best course of action would be to see your surgeon, and discuss surgical intervention. Best of luck!
Are my goals for my tummy tuck realistic, or should I consider alternatives?
No TT needed!
May 13, 2021
Hello and thanks for your question. In my opinion, you could avoid a tummy tuck and go for a less invasive option like liposuction with Renuvion, which would tighten the skin. It is an ideal procedure for someone like you who doesn't have overhanging skin or diastasis. Make sure your consults are with a board certified plastic surgeon, best of luck!
Best way to get rid of tummy shelf?
Tummy tuck
May 13, 2021
Based on these photos, a tummy tuck would achieve a flatter result and would be what I recommend. Liposuction would need to be combined with something like Renuvion to help tighten your skin, but based on the side view, you may still have some skin laxity in that area, which is why a tummy tuck would give a better result. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon, and best of luck!
What can I do to fix my tummy after liposuction?
Depends on timing
May 7, 2021
Hello! So the first part in answering your question is determining how far out from liposuction you are. Swelling and skin contraction can take time, and I usually recommend waiting 6 months to fully evaluate the result. If after that amount of time, you still have laxity, your options would be a tummy tuck vs something that will help skin contract. I use Renuvion, which uses helium plasma to tighten the skin. It is surgical, but uses minimal scarring and has less downtime than a tummy tuck....
I'm scheduled for a tummy tuck tomorrow. I did not stop birth control pills. Should I be worried?
Notify your surgeon
Apr 22, 2021
I generally have patients stop birth control two weeks before surgery, but your surgeon may have a different protocol. It would be best to notify your surgeon immediately to discuss the risks and determine the best course of action. A low dose blood thinner could be used postoperatively to minimize your risk of clots as well, but obviously this would need to be discussed with and prescribed by your surgeon. Best of luck!
Stomach looks like a bottom from an incision, what surgery do I need?
Tummy tuck
Apr 22, 2021
Hello! I am so sorry you had such a rough time post-partum. After reviewing your photo, the best solution would be a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty. This would remove the skin and scar below the belly button and flatten your abdomen. It is difficult to fully assess without seeing your entire abdomen, but if you don't plan on having more children and your weight is at a place you plan to maintain, this should be the best solution. Best of luck!
Is very little yellow in the drain okay? 10 days post-op.
Normal!
Apr 21, 2021
Hi, congrats on your recent surgery! The color of your drainage sounds very normal for that time frame after surgery. As long as the drainage is thin fluid, and does not turn cloudy/thick or have large blood clots in the bulb, it is likely normal. Your surgeon will remove the drain when the output is low enough, so for now just keep doing your drain care and good luck with recovery.
Fluid build up after abdominoplasty. When should I be concerned?
Patience and compression are key
Apr 21, 2021
A seroma can happen after drain removal. Draining the fluid with a needle is the correct course of action as your surgeon is planning. On your part, you should maintain snug compression with whatever garment you are using, and avoid excessive activity. Seromas may need to be drained more than once, but certainly ensuring that you are keeping the area well compressed is the best thing you can do for now. Lymphatic massage can also be helpful, but ask your surgeon before pursuing that.
Bilateral Modified Mastopexy (mild; Grade 1). Advice?
Agreed!
Mar 25, 2021
With your overall breast skin and nipple position, I think it is very reasonable to not do a lift, but be cautious with sizing. In person measurements and examination can help determine what size is necessary, and avoiding too large of an implant will reduce potential future problems. This could save you scarring and will add fullness and a somewhat lifted appearance as well. Good luck.
Would I need a lift plus implants, or can I just get implants?
Lift is best
Mar 25, 2021
In my opinion, your options would be a breast lift or a lift with implants. To do implants alone, you would need significant volume to fill the skin, and even still the nipples would not raise substantially. With you not wanting to have a larger size, this does not sound like implants alone would work for you. If you are happy with your current volume, a lift alone could achieve what you are looking for, or if upper pole fullness is particularly important, then a smaller implant in...
Is breast augmentation permanent?
10 years for silicone
Mar 24, 2021
I personally recommend swapping silicone implants out after 10 years, due to the possibility of silent rupture. While all current evidence shows they are safe, they are still not designed to be a lifetime device. Saline implants can be left indefinitely as you would know when saline ruptures - the implant would deflate.
What will fix my sad chest? Breast aug Vs BA with areola reduction/ donut?
Avoid extra scarring
Mar 24, 2021
In your case, I would recommend starting with the breast augmentation alone. The areola won't look as large in relation to the larger breast size after surgery, and I don't think your nipples will look too low. Hopefully you will be satisfied, and spare yourself scarring around the areola. If not and you still want the reduction, this would be an easy revision after the fact. Best of luck!
Why might some doctors not want to do a Transaxillary Breast Augmentation?
IMF is best
Mar 22, 2021
I much prefer the IMF (breast crease) incision as it has the lowest rates of infection and capsular contracture. It is also the necessary incision for most revision work, so best to just keep scarring to only one location, rather than multiple in the future. Hope that helps!
Would my nipples still face the ground with a breast augmentation?
To some degree!
Mar 22, 2021
Implants would help lift the nipples a bit, but depending on your goal you may end up wanting a lift in addition once everything has settled. It would be reasonable to try an augmentation first, and if you want more after, you can always go back for an additional lift!
