Braces vs. Surgery

Your condition is know as an anterior open bite with incompenent lip closure. The open bite between the teeth can be closed with braces, however, this typically has little effect on the closure of the lips. Surgery helps to decrease the vertical height of your upper jaw and rotate your lower jaw into a more balanced position so you can close your lips without having to use your lip and chin muscles so much.
